Archie and Riverdale Fans!
Join us June 1, 1 PM, for an inspiring talk with Nancy Silberkleit, the CEO of Archie Comics. Nancy's message is "comics and graphic literacy are great tools to encourage the love of reading". She shows useful ways to use comics to educate and inspire reading and gives some personal stories that support the message. Nancy will show some comics via Hoopla over Zoom, which people can access for free using their library card.
Nancy Silberkleit is co-CEO of Archie Comic Publications, one of the most successful, longest-running brands in the history of the comic industry. Her vision is that the comic book, as a graphic novel, is a valuable tool for developing literacy among first-time readers and instilling a love of reading in everyone. As a former public art school teacher, Silberkleit knows the importance of literacy; her personal motto is “Children + Comic Books = Reading, Knowledge, Confidence and Creativity.” She is the wife of the late Michael Silberkleit, who was the son of Archie Comics founder Louis Silberkleit, who founded Archie Comics in 1942 with his partner John L. Goldwater.

Later, at 6:30 PM, Nancy shares some of the secret sauce on how the Riverdale Series has evolved from Archie Comics and why it has much of the same DNA. She will share some of the methodology of making a comic book and insight into being a publisher of Comics, and how she uses comics to further her passion for the environment and anti-bullying. Another cause Nancy is passionate about is Autism and she will give a peek into a new character she developed that has Autism and attends Riverdale High with Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead.
There will be time for questions at the end. For ages 11+ Register here!
