Rapid Covid-19 Test Kits
AVRL is assisting NS Health with the distribution of Take-Home COVID-19 rapid testing kits to our communities. Free COVID rapid antigen tests are available to pick up at the Library! Available during open hours. You can pick up a test kit any time during open hours. Find a location near you. Limited but regular supplies A new supply will arrive regularly, and each branch’s stock will fluctuate. Library staff cannot take appointments or reserve kits for you. We want you to have a safe and positive experience when picking up your rapid test kit. Two kits (or bundle) per person, please. (Each kit contains 5 tests.) You may pick up a kit for others. Tests should not be used inside the Library. Are you feeling sick? If yes, please stay home and complete Nova Scotia Health’s self-assessment tool or call 811. And when you’re at your Library, please remember to remain physically distanced from staff and other community members. Just login and pre-register for one of our 2023 Challenges. New to Beanstack? New in 2023: All the Feels: Earn fun emoji-themed badges for logging your reading, completing activities, and submitting book reviews. Everyone who completes the challenge by reading for at least 10 hours during the month of January will be entered to win one of three AVRL Prize Packs. This Challenge is for all ages. Adventure 365: Perfect for keeping tabs on your reading over the course of the year. Add titles as you go and by December, you'll be able to put together your Best of 2023 list in no time! App News: Goodbye OverDrive, Hello Libby!
OverDrive app users, changes are coming! The legacy OverDrive app will soon be discontinued, and you’ll need to switch to Libby, OverDrive’s newer reading app. You can still use the legacy OverDrive app for now, but we recommend upgrading to Libby today. Libby is made by the same people, with the same goal of connecting you to your library and to your favourite books, audiobooks, and magazines. It’s easy to use and full of fun features! Virtual KAIROS Blanket Exercise (vKBE)

The Blanket Exercise is a 3 hour intensive workshop that focuses on treaty education and Canadian history. Please note that this session will be held virtually via Zoom and that if possible, the use of a desktop or laptop computer is preferable for participation. Tablets, phones, and other hand-held devices to do not allow for all Zoom features which will be utilized in the vKBE. Trigger Warning: The vKBE walks through difficult life experiences such as Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other examples of colonial violence and policies that have negatively affected Indigenous peoples. Special features have been added to the presentation to both monitor and support participants, including a private chat for those who may need to talk to someone. Registration is required. Open to everyone ages 18+.
